NPP Primaries: Two women challenge 20 men in Northern Region

Two (2) women are among a list of 22 aspirants seeking to be elected as parliamentary candidates for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the nine constituencies with sitting lawmakers in the Northern Region.

A former Regional Women Organiser, Hajia Amama Sayibu who is eyeing the Tolon Constituency and Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakaria a Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) seeking to represent Yendi Constituency are the only females in the contest.

According to a timetable released by the Northern Regional Secretariat of the NPP sighted by MyNewsGh.com, all 22 aspirants are expected to be vetted on Wednesday March 4, 2020 and March 5, 2020 respectively.

The Deputy MASLOC Boss goes into the contest as one of the favourites and is expected to beat two other heavyweights including Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama and Baba Daney.

In the case of Hajia Amama Sayibu she faces four others including the incumbent, Hon Wahab Suhuyini Wumbei, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, Deputy Head of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) in charge of Tema, Jaagbo Baako and Mohammed Zakaria

Meanwhile, Regional Secretary Alhaji Sibdow Alhassan Yakubu, only Members of the Constituency Elections Committee (CEC) and Constituency Executives and their Personal Aides would be allowed into the vetting room.

He cautioned aspirants to restrain the behaviour of their supporters for a smooth and incident free vetting process.

VETTING OF ASPIRING PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATES-NR.

The National Parliamentary Vetting Committee (NPVC) of the NPP in the Northern Region announces for the information of all Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates (APC) to avail themselves between March 4 and 5 for vetting at the RCC Round Hut in Tamale.

The vetting schedule is as follows;

Day 1- Wednesday

Day 2 – Thursday

APCs must note that aside the Members of the Constituency Elections Committee(CEC) and Constituency Executives and their Personal Aides, no other persons shall be allowed in the vetting room. APCs are further cautioned to restrain the behaviour of their supporters for a smooth and incident free vetting process.
