Two former supporters of NPP Flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, have endorsed former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become the NPP's presidential candidate for the 2028 election.

The two - NPP Constituency Chairman for Jomoro, Mathew Nda, and former MCE for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira, Eric Essien, announced their unflinching support for Dr Bawumia during his campaign tour of Jomoro, in the Western Region on Monday November 3, 2025.

The Jomoro Constituency Chairman and the former MCE, paid tributes to Bawumia, highlighting his humility and good character, as well as his marketability, which they said, is crucial for the NPP to reclaim power.

"His humility is remarkable. Eventhough he has risen to the position of Vice President, he is so humble and he accords everyone with respect" said Mathew Nda, the Jomoro Constituency Chairman.

"These are the qualities we want for someone to occupy the seat of President. So I want to say on behalf of our delegates, as Chairman of the Constituency, that we are going for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia," the Chairman added, amidst wild cheers of approval from the delegates.

On his part, the former MCE, Essien, said Bawumia is the best among the contenders, to win power for the NPP, having already been marketed and well known across the country, and urged delegates to be guided by history and retain Bawumia, as they did with Kufuor and Akufo-Addo, before they were eventually elected president.

"What I simply want to say is that as a former MCE for this Municipality, politics is about numbers. When somebody already has the numbers, you keep the person and add up. Our first President, Kufuor got 39% and we didn't replace him. We supported him to go again and he won us political power," he said.

"Then came Akufo-Addo. He also didn't win on his first attempt but we backed him 3 times before the God of Israel opened the door for him. We never changed them."

"Former Vice President Bawumia got 41% and he's so close to the mark. Some things happened and our own supporters didn't vote and it affected us after being in power for 8 years."

"So I want to appeal to all delegates that, let's not change our candidate because it will be a big curse for us. Let us vote for him massively so we can rally behind him to win the 2028 election."

Dr Bawumia has been campaigning in the Western Region since the weekend, and his endorsement by two former Kennedy Agyapong supporters, who command respect in the area, has been described by observers as a massive boost in the region.
