The Amenfi West Constituency of the NPP has withdrawn one of its polling agents for allegedly accepting a ?250,000 bribe from the Western Regional Chairman of the NDC, Nana Alex Asamoah.
The constituency has also recommended that the agent, Samuel Ohene Gyan, should be referred to the disciplinary committee of the party.
The NPP constituency Chairman, Mr A. K. Sekyi, said in an interview that the party takes very serious exception to the bribery scandal.
The agent, who confirmed the incident, however, said the money was meant to assist him to sponsor his girlfriend in skills acquisition in hairdressing.
He said his girlfriend worked in a hotel where Nana Asamoah lodges. Mr Gyan alleged that as a result of his girlfriend's devotion to duty and courtesy at the hotel, Nana Asamoah agreed to assist her when she told him that her ambition was to become a hairdresser.
Nana Asamoah has, however, denied the allegation that the money was to influence the agent.
He said it is unfortunate that the NPP has twisted his genuine intention and politicised the issues.
