NPP, NDC share regions after 142 constituencies

Accra, Dec. 9, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition candidate Professor John Evans Atta Mills of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have taken control of five regions each with certified results from 142 constituencies.

Electoral Commission (EC) certified results made available to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday indicate that Nana Akufo-Addo recorded the highest number of votes in Ashanti Region with 754,512 votes representing 71.27 percent. The rest are Brong Ahafo 249,192 votes representing 50.51 per cent; Eastern region 291,789 votes representing 62.2 per cent; Upper West Region, 10,436 votes representing 46.3 per cent; and Western Region, 251,050 votes representing 50.33 per cent.

Prof. Mills leads in the Central Region with 299,520 votes representing 48.23 per cent; Greater Accra with 506,533 votes representing 51.69 per cent; Northern Region, 296,076 votes representing 57.95 per cent; Upper East Region with 188,405 votes representing 53.73 per cent. Prof Mills recorded the highest win in the Volta region with 432,149 votes representing 81.59 per cent. Prof Mills is, however trailing Nana Akufo-Addo in Eastern region with 160,628 votes representing 34.24 per cent; Western region 207,656 votes representing 41.63 per cent; Brong Ahafo 223,975 votes representing 45.4 per cent and Ashanti Region 269,912 votes representing 25.49 per cent.

Nana Akufo-Addo trails Prof Mills in Volta Region with 75,507 votes representing 14.26 per cent; Northern Region by 180,615 votes representing 35.35 per cent; Greater Accra 445,032 votes representing 45.42 per cent; Central Region 281,065 votes representing 45.26 per cent and Upper East Region 118,454 votes representing 33.78 per cent. According to the EC statistics, the total valid votes is 5,407,186; total votes in ballot box was 5,534,662; total rejected votes 127,476.
