NPP, NDC Fight O ver PNC

Both leading parties have already started casting their nets into the boiling political cauldron that 2008 promises and have initiated alliances that could determine which of them will mount the victory podium. The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are now fighting over the People's National Convention (PNC) for possible alliance to enhance their chances in the event of any round-off that now seems certain judging from the way the main opposition party is in the election.

The two parties are therefore affirming their strong affection and warmth with the PNC in particular and other minor political parties. Observers at the PNC's Northern Regional Delegates Congress on Sunday August 5, 2007 broke into endless laughter when representatives of the two main parties began to ask for the full mutual help of the Nkrumahist party. This call on the PNC initiated a heated debate as to which of the parties would win the support of the PNC in the event of a round off.

The Representative of the NPP Mr. Issah Sumaila started his speech by cautioning the PNC from merging or forming alliance with the opposition NDC which he described as violent party being managed by violent people. He entreated the Nkrumahist party to recognize the nice time they had had with the NPP after supporting it to win the 2000 elections. Mr. Sumaila was hopeful that the PNC that gave the NPP the helping hand in the 2000 election would not allow Rawlings and his people to woo them into their camp which he said would be a regrettable act, saying, "PNC is a democratic party and must dine and wine with NPP the mother of all democratic parties"

In a quick reaction to these assertions, the NDC Regional fSecretary, Abdulai Haruna insisted that the PNC would never avail itself to NPP for any alliance since they were neglected and sidelined under the NPP regime. According to him, though the NDC was 100% sure of winning the 2008 elections, he did not believe that the PNC would once again merge with the same NPP. Mr. Issah Issahaku Insect, a leading member of the Committee Joint Action (CJA) supported the NDC to rubbish completely the intention of the ruling party to form another alliance with the PNC.

However, Mr. Bernard Mornah of the PNC condemned the representatives of the two parties for undermining the potencies and credibility of his party to win the general elections. According to him, the PNC was feverishly re-strategizing, repackaging and restructuring as well as increasing its support base to unseat the NPP and was rather expecting NPP and NDC who are sensing defeat to align with them. "Any round-off in 2008 will between PNC and any other political party".
