NPP Members Are Brainless ... Not Constitutionally Literate

A legal practitioner and an NDC activist, Mr. David Annan has warned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to misinterpret the country’s constitution since they did not take part in its formulation.

Mr. Annan claims because the opposition NPP did not help in the putting together of the constitution, they have “difficulties in understanding” it. He stated that if they really understood the constitution, they would not have boycotted a constitutional assembly.

“…it is the basic reason why the NPP does not show appreciation for tenets in our constitution,” he said.

Speaking on X-FM, an Accra-based private radio station, Mr. Annan posited that it is problematic for the NPP to understand a simple provision like Article 127. He explained that to “clean up the judiciary did not mean that NDC had infringed upon Article 127, which touches on judges exercising their judicial power.”

The outspoken NDC adherent pointed out that judges only exercised their judicial power when they were “ruling on a particular matter, making motions, giving judgements and hearing judgements”, and “not when they were sitting in their houses.”

Mr. Annan proceeded to state that the mere fact that the NPP thought Article 19(17) and 3(3) have been breached, intensified the “belief” in the NDC that the NPP was not constitutionally literate. He accused the NPP of creating an opportunity for foreigners and diplomats to snicker at the kind of Members of Parliament who form the Minority in the august House.

“…the NPP is inconsistent and hypocritical…and the NDC is not ready to learn from such people (them)…the NDC only poured scorn on the minority’s statement intended to criticize Dr. Kwame Adjei,” he stated.
