NPP MP calls on Mahama to investigate AG over corruption allegations by A Plus

The Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru Kennedy Nyarko Osei has called on President John Dramani Mahama to authorise an investigation into corruption allegations made by the Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, against the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.

According to him, an accusation of this magnitude against Dr Ayine, who holds the esteemed position of Attorney General — a role that demands the highest standards of integrity — should not be overlooked.

He emphasised the need to treat the allegations with utmost seriousness, expressing concern that they could undermine the integrity and reputation of the Attorney General’s office.

“The allegation leveled against the AG by Kwame Asare Obeng must not be taken lightly especially when it bothers on corruption. This allegation has the potential of discrediting the office of the AG and puts its image into disrepute,” he wrote on Facebook on May 1, 2025.

He has, therefore, called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter, urging the president to allow the process to proceed, as he believes it will help dispel public doubts surrounding the Attorney General and the credibility of his office.

“I will urge the president to let the matter to be investigated to clear any doubts in the minds of the public,” he added.

His call comes in response to an ongoing exchange between the two public figures, Dr Dominic Ayine and Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus.

During a media briefing on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to update the public on high-profile prosecutions, Dr Ayine took the opportunity to address allegations previously made against him by A Plus.

Dr Ayine vehemently denied the accusations, describing them as baseless, and challenged A Plus to provide evidence.

“I am aware of allegations made by Kwame Asare Obeng, MP for Gomoa Central, also known as A Plus, who called me corrupt and a thief on social media, claiming I received campaign contributions from a businessman, Dr. Sledge, and others who donated pickups. These allegations are baseless.

"I challenge him to present evidence of my alleged corruption to the police or hold a press conference. He should also clarify his knowledge of the National Service ghost name scandal and related matters. In my hometown of Zuarungu, we confront falsehoods directly, and I am prepared to do so with Mr Obeng,” Dr Ayine stated.

A Plus had alleged on Facebook that Dr Ayine manipulated the drafting and passage of the Sanitation and Pollution Levy in 2021 for personal gain while in opposition, further claiming that Ayine restructured the leadership of a parliamentary committee to benefit a close associate.
