NPP Govt has failed to honour campaign promises - Mills

Kotoso (E/R), Oct. 22, GNA - The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor John Evans Atta Mills, said the NPP administration has failed to honour the numerous promises it made during the 2000 electioneering campaign to enhance the people's living standard.

He, therefore, called on the electorate to vote out the NPP government in the 2004 general elections for deceiving them with vain promises.

Professor Mills was addressing durbars at Kotoso, Nketepa, Kwahu-Adawso and Nkawkaw Zongo as part of his one-day visit to the Kwahu South District.

He said many Ghanaians were looking forward to the NPP administration to fulfil its campaign promises such as free education, free health care and employment opportunities but regretted that it had failed to honour them.

"Its economic policies have rather led to a worsening standard of living with attendant increases in utility services, petroleum products and school fees," said Prof. Mills.

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr Fred Ohene Kena, advised the people to examine their present living standard as compared to the NDC era before casting their votes in the 2004 elections.

Mr Opoku Preko, a former District Chief Executive for Kwahu South, advised them to register during the forthcoming voters' registration exercise, saying that is the only means to be used to change the government during the forthcoming elections.

A former Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr Mike Akyeampong said the NDC would complete all the development projects it initiated when voted into power in the 2004 elections.
