A recent poll conducted by Global Info Analytics has positioned former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the frontrunner in the flagbearership race for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the survey, Dr Bawumia, who was the NPP's presidential candidate in the 2024 general election, is the preferred choice to lead the party into the 2028 election among declared and likely contenders for the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.
The study revealed that 56% of surveyed voters expressed a preference for Dr Bawumia to lead the NPP in 2028.
Coming in second in the poll was former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, who has publicly declared his intention to contest the presidential primaries.
Approximately 23% of voters indicated their preference for Kennedy Agyapong to lead the NPP.
The poll also showed that 9% of voters favoured former Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, to be the party's next flagbearer.
Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi Central, Dr Patrick Yaw Boamah, who has not yet declared his intention to lead the party, placed fourth with 4% of the votes.
Finally, the MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong, another contender for the NPP presidential candidate position, came in fifth with 3% of the votes.
Will it be another showdown in 2026 for KOA? But Dr Bawumia takes a huge step in the race to lead the party if the views of Ghanaian voters matter for delegates. pic.twitter.com/jCYCsR1O6S
