NPP Failed, Thus Asking For Forgiveness -NDC

Koforidua, Dec. 17, GNA - Mr Julius Debrah, Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said that the current campaign of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was an admission that it had mismanaged the destiny of Ghanaians hence its plea for forgiveness.

He said after many years of imposition of suffering on the people, the government now saw the need to reduce the price of petrol only after the flag bearer of the NDC, Professor John Evans Attah Mills had promised to do so when elected president.

Mr Debrah was speaking at the review meeting of the party in the Eastern Regional and the launching of the regional campaign towards the presidential run-off on December 28, in Koforidua on Tuesday. He observed that, the property owning democracy of the NPP had failed all over the world and the world was more and more adopting social democratic policies.

Mr Debrah said property owning democracy was not likely to succeed in a developing country like Ghana and the best policy for the country was the social democratic policy, which ensured that both the rich and the poor had something to eat at the end of the day, hence the need for Ghanaians to vote for the NDC.

The National Organizer of the Party, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, denied that the future government of NDC would sell the government shares of the Produce Buying Company (PBC), to a private company or abandoned the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He assured that the government of the NDC would rather ensure that the NHIS was made national and improve upon the National Youth Employment Programme.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the government of NDC would not mismanage the transitional period by rushing into dissolution of boards of corporations and institutions or the removal of heads of departments and institutions.

He said Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, had assured that he had a duty to fulfil and would not be interested in wasting his time in seeking vengeance when he assumed the reigns of governance. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said Prof Mills had assured that he would like to run a government for all the people of Ghana and not a government for any particular political party.

Mr Antwi Boasiako-Sekyere, of the office of Prof Atta-Mills, appealed to President Kufuor and the NPP to ensure that they leave behind a stable and united country after their party had lost the elections.

He said the NDC and all Ghanaians had sacrificed a lot and invested so much into achieving the stability and the peace the country was enjoying and that should not be allowed to be destroyed.

The chairman of the function, Mr Fred Ohene Kena, a leading member of the party expressed his appreciation to God that the prediction of Mr J. H. Mensah, a leading member of the NPP in 2000 that the NDC would "die" could not be fulfilled.

He said instead the NDC was now a majority party with 113 seats in parliament and waiting to assume the reigns of government. 17 Dec. 08
