NPP, CPP leaders meet in Accra

THE leadership of New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Convention People?s Party (CPP) have resolved to institute pragmatic policies to salvage the economy and improve the material conditions of the people if the NPP assumes the political reins of the country. This was the outcome of a two-hour meeting between the leaders of the two parties in Accra.

The meeting centred mainly on issues related to the holding of the second round of the presidential slot. At the end of the deliberations, the leaders of the two parties agreed that subsidies would be made available to the agricultural sector in order for the country to achieve sufficiency in food production for local consumption and for export. They also agreed on paying realistic and fair prices to cocoa farmers. On the issue of the Cash and Carry System, which regulates the country?s health system, the parties agreed to abolish it and create conditions under which every citizen shall have the right to adequate health care and quality treatment irrespective of their economic or social status. The leaders also resolved to take certain positive steps to effect genuine and lasting reconciliation.

According to the parties, since the Judiciary is the third arm of the State, steps will be taken to ensure that its independence is not compromised. They expressed grave concern about human rights issues in the country and agreed to take immediate steps to reverse the situation. ?The parties abhor the poor management of human rights and safety of Ghanaians as manifested in the inability of the Security Agencies to unearth the mystery of serial killing,? the leaders stressed.

The two parties also decided ? not to leave any stone unturned in making corruption unattractive in the society.?
