NPP Brawl: Kufuor must speak up now – Amoako Baah

A Political Scientist Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has urged former president John Kufuor and other leading members of the NPP to speak up and bring calm to the distressed opposition party.

According to him, the nature of the crisis that has befallen the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition demands the intervention of people with higher pedigree in resolving it.

The main opposition party is in a state of mourning following the killing of its Upper East regional chairman Adams Mahama by two unknown assailants on Wednesday near his residence.

Fingers are pointing at national chairman Paul Afoko and general secretary Kwabena Agyepong due to the frosty relationship that existed between the late regional chairman and the duo.

Speaking on the Ultimate Breakfast show Friday, head of the Political Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said the party must regroup to win the 2016 elections or forget ever coming back to power.

“What is happening in the party is not good for any political party. Any party that cannot win power should not be in business.

“Right now Kufuor has to take an active role in the party. In the past, it looks as if he was too aloof, he stood aside and allowed things to go on,” he stated.

He continued: “So now, he has to take an active role. I know he is an elderly person but I know he is very strong too, he should take an active role and speak up in what is happening in the party; not he alone, Addo Kufuor too must join him so they stop what is happening.

“If they can’t win this time around, they should forget about agenda 2020. If they can’t win now when the NDC is suffering, then they should forget it because if the NDC is able to fix the problems now, there is no way they will lose 2020.”
