NPP Activist Behind Seized Cannabis At Heathrow Airport - Anita Desoso

National Women’s Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Anita De Soso, has hit back at General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, for claiming that the cannabis busted at the Heathrow Airport in London earlier this week on board a plane from Ghana, was being hauled by a member of the ruling NDC.

According to her, the fact that the NPP has gained unbridled notoriety in the drug trade leading to the tag, narcotic peddler’s party being placed on them, does not mean the NDC will engage in similar nefarious acts.

She added that the NPP has no moral authority to even comment on issues bordering on the trade of the illicit drug, not to talk of accusing the NDC.

UK Heathrow Airport on Monday, September 24th busted 1.5 tones of cannabis (wee) in tape-wrapped compressed packages within boxes on a flight from Accra.

The drugs, which street value is allegedly £4.3 million, were found in three separate freight containers filled with fresh fruit and vegetables and reported as the biggest cannabis seizure in three years.

Five officials from Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) who were supposed to be on duty on that day were subsequently arrested but released on bail to help in investigations.

When the news broke out, Sir John, as the NPP Chief Scribe is affectionately called, stated that his party was aware the owner of that cannabis consignment is an “NDC man” but failed to disclose the person’s identity.

”...we are aware the drugs were carried to the UK by an NDC man and in the coming days we shall bring the details out. We are reliably informed and will make everybody aware of what the NDC is doing to the country. They lied in the past and tagged NPP with narcotics which they are now paying the ultimate price for it…The NDC in the past told us that cocaine, wee and other drugs have become a thing of the past and have now become a scarce commodity. Now what are they saying about this. It is shameful to the NDC and its government,” Sir John maintained.

But in a quick rebuttal on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning show, the NDC National Women’s Organizer rubbished the allegations insisting that the NPP is only trying to engage in equalization purposes and threw down the gauntlet to the opposition party to bring it on if they intend to use the issue of illicit drug trade as a campaign message.

“We will strike back at them so hard they wouldn’t know what hit them…it’s not true that the arrested NACOB officials are NDC foot soldiers…why, is it only NDC footsoldiers who are employed at NACOB,” she quizzed.

She revealed that the NDC is also reliably informed that a leading member of the opposition party was behind the export of the seized cannabis and the person’s identity will soon be made public.

Madam De Sosoo further accused the NPP of frenetically looking for financial resources to do what they are best noted for; run lavish campaigns because the general election is around the corner.
