NLC meets striking Technical University Teachers

The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana has embarked on a sit down strike The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana has embarked on a sit down strike

The leadership of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana(TUTAG) will later today meet the National Labour Commission (NLC) over talks to cause the Association to end its sit down strike.

The meeting comes on the back of TUTAG’s refusal to call off its strike despite an order to do so.

The Association’s action is in protest of the amendment of certain sections of the 2016 Act that establishes the Technical universities.

There has been an impasse between the Teachers association and the education minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh over attempts to amend portions of Act 922.

The amendment bill which is currently before Parliament seeks to grant power to the National Council for Technical Education to perform functions which generally fall within the purview of the Governing Councils, the Academic Boards and the Principal Officers of Universities in Ghana.

The Ministry of Education is expected to be represented at today’s meeting.
