The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that its workers have suspended their strike, leading to the resumption of full operations nationwide effective on June 30, 2025.
This resolution to the labor dispute brings welcome relief to citizens who depend on the NIA for essential services, such as obtaining the Ghana Card.
In a public notice issued on Sunday, June 29, and signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, head of the NIA's Corporate Affairs Directorate, the authority stated that the decision followed extensive discussions with key stakeholders.
These included the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Finance, and the leadership of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU), as reported by citinewsroom.com on June 29, 2025.
"Management acknowledges and appreciates the good faith demonstrated by the Union and wishes to assure all staff that their legitimate concerns are a priority and will continue to receive the urgent attention they deserve," the statement read.
The end of the strike is a positive development, coming after negotiations aimed at addressing worker grievances.
The suspension of the strike follows several days of service disruptions that significantly impacted access to national ID registration services.
The NIA expressed regret for any inconvenience caused during the industrial action and thanked the public for their patience and understanding.
"All NIA offices and registration centers across the country will resume full operations on Monday, June 30, 2025," confirmed the authority, encouraging the public to take advantage of the resumption to access ID services.
With the full resumption of services, the NIA aims to address the backlog of applications and related processes.
The statement reaffirmed the NIA's commitment to providing "quality, efficient, and reliable identification services" to Ghanaians in fulfillment of its national mandate.
