The Upper West Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has presented two giant water tanks, worth GHC 3,618.00, to the St. Francis Girls Senior High School in Jirapa to curtail the water problem.
Mr Titus Sory, the Upper West Regional Director of the NHIA, presenting the water tanks, said the gesture was to honour the school for its brilliant performance during the quiz organised to mark the 10th anniversary of the NHIA.
He said the school emerged best at both district and regional levels and was selected to represent the Upper West Region at the national level.
While congratulating the school for the success chalked, Mr Sory appealed to the students to continue to take their studies seriously so as to win more laurels for the school.
He promised closer collaboration between the school and the NHIA to address many health challenges and urged the Headmistress, Madam Rosemary Nyekpieng, not to hesitate to report any health concern to the Authority.
Madam Nyekpieng lauded the NHIA for the gesture and gave the assurance that they would be placed strategically to enable one of the boreholes that had been mechanised to pump water into them for use.
She said previously because of the lack of a water storage facility, students often struggled in long queues in search of water which often resulted in their getting late to class.
Madam Nyekpieng said with the two water tanks the situation would definitely improve.
She mentioned inadequate furniture, a small and dilapidated administration block, as well as electrical wiring problems as some of the challenges confronting the school, and appealed to the Government, organisations and philanthropists to come to their aid.
She explained that the school had not seen a rewiring since its establishment in 1959, hence the electrical challenges.
