NHIA boss dissects Nana Addo over free healthcare promise

The National Health Insurance Authority has described as “pathetic” Nana Akufo Addo’s campaign promise of free healthcare for all under 18s if elected President.

The main opposition flag bearer announced on Wednesday in a speech at the Sunyani Nurses Training College that he will provide free medical care to all children under 18 irrespective of their parents’ registration status with the Health Insurance Scheme.

Currently unregistered children can only enjoy the benefits of the scheme if their parents are subscribers.

The NPP flag bearer also alleged that the active membership figure of the scheme is declining.

But the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme Sylvester Mensah in an interview with XYZ News said Nana Addo’s comments betray how little he knows about the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“It is so pathetic, I mean you don’t understand what pertains and yet you are describing what you want to do. On what condition is he building his vision” Mr. Mensah said.
