NHC to develop code of ethics

Kumasi, Dec 18, GNA - The National House of Chiefs (NHC) is to develop a code of ethics for the chieftaincy institution, Wulugu Naba Pugansoa Naa Professor John S. Nabila, its President, has said. This is to help the institution to maintain its' relevance and acceptability to the majority of Ghanaians who look up to chiefs for leadership.

Naa Professor Nabila was addressing the opening session of the end-of-year general meeting of the House in Kumasi on Friday. They are deliberating on issues affecting the efficient functioning of the institution.

He identified inadequate budgetary allocation to the House as a major constraint on the performance of responsibilities assigned them by the 1992 Constitution and added to this is insufficient staff. Naa Prof Nabila asked for a revisit of the "needs assessment of the institution" that was started in 2000 by the House and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He said it was important the House submitted the concerns of the Chiefs to the government for consideration and appropriate action. He thanked the members for their support and cooperation and asked that they continued with this to enhance the development of chieftaincy in the country.
