Empowerment Aid, a Non-Governmental Organization focusing on empowering of women and girls has marked International Day for the Eradication of Poverty with women and girls in Tabita in Eastern Region.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is a day we celebrate to create awareness that poverty can be eradicated.

Sustainable Development Goal 1 "End poverty in all its forms everywhere", as said by Nelson Mandela "Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man- made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.
Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom."

Mr. Richard Opoku who is the Project Cordinator of Empowerment Aid (NGO) motivated the participants and urged them to believe in their capabilities that they can make life better for themselves and society.

They were educated to understand that poverty is not a natural phenomenon but bad decisions created my man which has resulted it. Women and girls there were taught on how to become financial discipline and were encouraged to do savings, even if it may be possible they should save that little.

Ms. Patience Obiyaa, Secretary of the organization urged women to invest in their children especially girls education because an investment in knowledge pays the best interest. She also appealed to government to put proper measures in place to empower women and girls and to eradicate poverty.

The NGO also made donations such as clothing, bags and sandals to the community.
