NDPC holds forum to inform national development planning

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) on Thursday, May 27, engaged the public on the country’s development policies, priorities and aspirations.

At the forum, citizens were taken through the national development agenda as well as an ideal destination towards which the nation ‘must work’.

Also, strategies were highlighted to promote accountability as views of stakeholders were collated to guide the formulation of the said agenda.

Chairman of the Commission, Professor Stephen Addai noted that although Ghana had made some considerable strides in its development agenda through its medium and long term development plans, its growth had neither translated into any appreciable change in the lives of many nor reduced inequalities in the country.

It is for this reason that Professor Addai charged Ghanaians to help develop a country where national discourse on development aspirations must be devoid of politics and sensationalism.

“The commission has decided to intellectually discuss pertinent development issues of Ghana at least once a month. We want to create a new NDPC in which Ghanaians of all spheres would own the institution and work for the welfare of the country. Working on a national development infrastructural plan, we think that it is our duty to publicize what needs to be done in order to form the foundation of our work. We are calling for the people of Ghana to help develop the strategic framework that are needed for both our long and medium term development”. He added

Prof. Adei said countries with significant success in development and growth were those that had had long-term development perspectives and pursued them with vigour and consistency.

background

The commission has embarked on a monthly forum to engage the public on development policy and the implementation of national infrastructure priorities.

It is currently working on a four-stage medium development plan out of the Drafted 40-Year Plan that was designed by the Commission some few years back.
