The National Democratic Party (NDP) says it will make public the contestants for the flagbearer slot of the party when nominations close on the 24th September.
The NDP on Monday opened nominations for the various elective positions including that of the flag bearer. Even before nominations opened, reports were rife that former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings was tipped to lead the party to the December polls.
The party however says two other people have expressed interest in the flag bearer position but may finally step down for Nana Konadu. The Interim National Secretary of the party, Joseph Moanba Rockson told XYZ News that there are positive signals from the former first lady even though she is yet to accept their offer to lead the party.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rockson has described the NDC’s Ashanti Regional Secretary, Joseph Yameen as a hypocrite. This follows comments by Mr. Yameen accusing the NDP and the former first lady of deceiving each other.
Mr. Yameen is demanding that Mrs. Konadu owns up as the founder of the NDP instead of pretending the party was trying to woo her.
Moanba Rockson says he is surprised at such comments from someone who was once a strong supporter of the former First Lady.
