A group of supporters and executives of the National Democratic Party (NDP) in the Northern Region has announced its defection to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to help the NDC to win the December elections.
Announcing the defection at a press conference in Tamale on Thursday, the group said "We have come to the realization that we were misled to join the newly formed NDP that is out to destroy the NDC's electoral fortune in this year's elections."
Mr. Abdulai Abdel Majeed, who until the defection was the Northern Regional Treasurer of the NDP, addressed the press conference and said "We felt disillusioned and cheated by some of the NDC leaders in the past but have come to the realization that the party's larger interest is supreme", the reason we defected back to the NDC.
Mr. Majeed stated that the leadership of the NDP had lost its direction saying "Some of the people who lured us to join the NDP are today themselves hiding their faces and secretly begging to be accepted back to the NDC."
He said "With this situation, we cannot see our future with a political party whose agenda is known only by the leaders or even some other people who may be remotely controlling the unknown agenda."
He said "With President John Mahama as the NDC Flag bearer, we have hope and confidence that he will deliver on the Better Ghana agenda and retain power for continuity in 2013."
He said "Even the NDC Founder, former President Rawlings said there was a new spark in the NDC since President Mahama became the leader of the NDC" adding this had convinced them to reunite with the NDC to make it grow bigger and stronger.
Mr. Majeed called on "fellow disgruntled party members throughout the country who think they can find solace in the NDP to rescind their decision and return to the NDC for a resounding victory in December".
