The Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tanko Rashid Computer, has rejected projections by Global Info Analytics that the governing party could lose parliamentary seats in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Alfred Ocansey on TV3, Tanko insisted that the NDC was working towards winning 200 parliamentary seats in the next general election despite pollster Mussa Dankwah’s projection that the party would secure 154 seats if elections were held today.
He maintained that the party’s confidence was based on the performance of President John Dramani Mahama’s government and strategies being developed ahead of the next elections.
“I can assure you that the strategies we are putting in place towards the 2028 general election, we are definitely going to grab 200 seats,” he said.
Tanko argued that the political circumstances in 2028 would be different from those of the 2024 elections, adding that he believed voters were satisfied with the current government’s performance.
“If you look at the current performance of the government, the people are so happy with the NDC government, and they are very much annoyed with the MPs because of their misbehaviour, even in opposition,” he stated.
He further maintained that the NDC was better positioned to increase its parliamentary representation, insisting that the 200-seat target was achievable.
“The NDC, look, these seats we are targeting, 200 is within reach. We are working closely with our activists and executives,” he added.
