NDC will not take the Volta Region for granted - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday embarked on a campaign tour of the Volta Region with the assurance that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government would not take the people of the Region for granted.

He said: “I want to thank all the people of the Volta Region for overwhelmingly voting for the NDC in all the elections and I can assure you that we will never take your support for granted.”

President Mahama said this when he addressed an NDC rally at Juapong on his way to Ho, the Regional capital.

The President who had earlier on addressed a similar rally at Atimpoko, would also make whistle stops at Frankadua, Asikuma, Peki, Kpevi and Dzolukota, before he arrives in Ho.

President Mahama is also expected to launch the NDC manifesto on Thursday, inspect progress of work on the Eastern corridor road, inspect and inaugurate projects at the Mawuli Senior High and OLA Girls Senior High schools, and inspect development projects in the Ho Municipality.

On Friday, President Mahama would return to Accra through Kpetoe, Have, Dzodze, Akatsi, Agbozume, Denu, Aflao, Dzelukope, Keta, Anloga, Dabala and Sogakope.

President Mahama said government through the Ghana Education Trust Fund had approved a budget to provide a number of projects for Senior High Schools and the Juapong Senior High would receive a girls' dormitory, science laboratory and an assembly hall.

He gave the assurance that government would partner the Juapong Textiles company with a strategic business organization that would help revive the fortunes of the factory and provide more jobs for Ghanaians in the coming years.

He said government would work on the Juapong-Torkor road, which he said was crucial in enhancing the development needs of the people. He announced that the Juapong area received 22 new basic school blocks and promised that government would perform better if given a second term, come December 7, this year.

Togbe Titriku Ananse XII, paramount chief of the Dofor Traditional Area appealed to government to provide roads and schools that would open up job opportunities to stem the drift of the youth to Accra and other urban areas.

He pledged that the people of the area would vote massively for the NDC in the December 7 general election.
