On his recent campaign tour of Bunkpurugu, John Dramani Mahama promised that abandoned infrastructural “projects will be completed before new ones are started.”
John Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was not happy that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) projects he started had been stopped by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.
"This is because they have collateralised the GETFUND, taken loans and spent it,” JM said.
He was responding to the address made by Dr. Abed Bandim, the MP for Bunkpurugu, who indicated earlier that the E-Blocks school projects had been abandoned.
Dr. Bandim also asked for a Technical and Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) institution for the constituency, adding that there is no tertiary educational institution in the constituency.
Mahama responded that the six new regions will each get a tertiary educational institution or the campus of a tertiary institution.
Dr. Abed Bandim further said that for a long time, he has been asking for the GETFUND school infrastructural projects in his constituency to be completed but anytime he raises the question in parliament, what he gets are long stories from the Minister of Education.
He added that the last time he did, Dr Yaw Adutwum indicated that the GETFUND projects would be completed “when funds become available.”
Pressing further for timelines from the minister, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, let the minister off the hook, saying that the minister had already indicated that he did not know when the GETFUND Secretariat would make funds available.
