NDC's intimidation plot will not succeed– Napo

Member of Parliament for Manhyia Constituency in the Ashanti Region says Thursday’s shooting incident at Ashtown, a suburb of Kumasi, is one of the sinister plots of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rig next week’s general elections.

Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh while calling on the security agencies to step up their efforts at ensuring free and fair elections intimated that no amount of persecutions and threats would cow the New Patriotic Party into submission. The medical practitioner made the remark in an interview with Citi Fm in Accra on Friday.

It would be recalled that violence broke out on Thursday in the Constituency among some supporters of the NPP and NDC when Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh embarked on a house-to-house campaign.

He added: “I have been going on house-to-house since 2008. It is not 2012 that I started doing house to house. And since we started doing this house-to-house, these unfortunate people have been following us wherever we go, a week before they came to shoot guns and hurt people in Manhyia. But the silence of the security and Police officials is too deafening and they should be careful.”

Registering his displeasure, the Ashanti regional Chairman of the NPP, Fredrick Fredua Anto said the Police have not been helpful in the matter because the perpetrators of the act could have been arrested months back.

“…These criminals have been in Kumasi all this while. They were the same people who disturbed the biometric voters registration so I want to know the intelligence work that the Police is doing; it’s important,” he added.
