NDC poised to win back Greater Accra seats

Ashiaman (GAR), July 22, GNA - Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the party was poised to reclaim seats it lost to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region and would spare no efforts in attaining that noble objective, come 2008 general elections.

Winning elections would be determined by the Greater Accra Region; that is why it was important to equally meet our opponents' challenges with determination, he said, and urged the supporters to be committed and loyal.

Mr. Iddrisu, who is Member of Parliament of Tamale South urged the youth organizers in Greater Accra gird their loins and not to take things for granted, especially as the party was preparing towards the presidential and parliamentary elections next year.

The MP, who was speaking at the inauguration of the regional youth working committee of the party on Saturday, also urged the youth to redouble their efforts since the 2008 elections would not be an easy one, considering NPP's determination to retain power by hook or crook. He urged the rank and file of the party to be mindful of the NPP propaganda campaign to run down achievements that the NDC had chalked when in power and implored the youth to work hard to sustain the confidence of the electorate in order to win power.

Mr. Iddrisu called for a vigorous strategy to neutralize misinformation and lies that the NPP had adopted against the NDC. The MP for Ashiaman, Mr Alfred Agbesi called for teamwork at the various levels of the party's hierarchy since the NDC could accomplish set targets in unity. "In unity lies strength and for that matter I am appealing to the elders and rank and file to bury their differences, since a disunited platform offers our opponents the opportunity to disrupt our activities."

Mr. Alex Tettey Enyo, MP for Ada, also urged the youth not to surrender to NPP who had always sought the destruction of the NDC, adding that the leadership was working hard and called on them not to be provoked during the campaign time.

Mr Daniel Ekumah, who chaired the function advised the entire members not to relent in their efforts at canvassing for more support for the party to enhance its chances of winning the 2008 general elections.
