NDC not perturbed by Nana Akufo-Addo's election

Kumasi, Aug 8, GNA - Mr Joseph Boarle Salifu, Asawasi Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for organizing a peaceful National Delegates Congress at the weekend.

He said the Congress, which saw the election of Nana Addo- Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as Flag-bearer of the NPP, should be a wake-up call to all well-meaning activists and sympathizers of the NDC to re-strategize and work hard at all levels to ensure total victory for the party in 2012.

They should also eschew petty squabbles, arrogance, complacency and selfishness to enable the party to retain power and continue with its sound economic policies and programmes for the benefit of the citizenry.

Mr Salifu told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi that, the NDC was on course to better the living conditions of the masses, citing the stabilization of the economy, with the inflation rate now standing at 9.52 per cent, creation of jobs for the unemployed youth and the success in reducing drug trafficking in the country to an appreciable standard.

He said President John Evans Atta Mills should be given the necessary encouragement and support since he was capable of thrashing the Nana Akufo-Addo- led NPP for the second time in 2012.

The Secretary said the NPP had nothing new to offer the nation after it failed to effectively address the socio-economic challenges facing the masses in its eight- year tenure in office.

In a related development, the Kumasi Polytechnic branch of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the NDC has also congratulated the NPP for a successful Congress.

A Statement signed by the President, Mr Musah Ahmed, and issued in Kumasi, said the election of Nana Akufo-Addo as the NPP flag-bearer was a good omen for the NDC.

"We have monitored with keen interest the good leadership qualities and achievements of President Mills in his two years in office and are of the firm believe that come 2012, Ghanaians are going to endorse him for the second time", the statement noted.

It urged leaders of all TEIN branches to intensify their outreach programmes to explain to the people at the grassroots the success story of the NDC and its plans for the future to brighten the party's chances in 2012.
