Chairman for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region, Bernard Antwi Bosiako aka Chairman Wontumi, has disputed claims that the elephant family wants to undermine the overlord of Asante Kingdom, Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

Speaking to Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the political leader said if there is any party that undermines the authority of the Asantehene, it is the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Reacting to the visit by the president to the Manhyia Palace on Monday, the outspoken politician said, when the NDC was in power, they undermined the authority of the Asantehene, he [Asantehene] complained on several occasions but they never apologized like we [NPP] have done.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo held a closed door meeting with the overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfour Osei Tutu II over alleged claims that some members of the party are engaging in acts to denigrate his throne.

Rainbow Radio’s Kwabena Amoateng told Nyankonton Mu Nsem that, the meeting was only between the president and the traditional ruler.

Amoateng further indicated that the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah and some other Ministers were in the meeting, but could not tell if the President’s Secretary and lawyer, Nana Asante Bediatuo as well as his cousin, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, were present.

Some top officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) recently knelt and beg the Asantehene after he became furious over concerns that some members within the NPP government are attempting to pitch him [Asantehene] against the Ohyehene and Akyems.

In the interview with Rainbow Radio, Chairman Wontuni also used the opportunity to disputed claims that the Asantehene complained about attempts to pitch him against the Akyems. He however confirmed that the ruler made mention of two names but did not disclose the names.

He stressed, ‘’we respect the Asantehene. We will not do anything to undermine his authority. As a political party, we respect traditional leaders and so we will always respect his authority,’’ he concluded.
