NDC denies raising funds for NPP’s Parliamentary candidate

Lord Hamah Lord Hamah

The National Democratic Party (NDC) has denied allegations that the party’s executives raised funds to help the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Tema West, Kwesi Poku Bosompem, win the party's upcoming primaries.

According to the Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah, neither did the NDC chairman nor any executive contributed funds towards the campaign of the aspiring member.

The statement comes on the back of a former Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, Lord Hamah, who revealed his intention to help NPP’s Kwesi Poku Bosompem, alleging that some executives of the NDC have contributed funds to ensure Kwesi Poku Bosompem wins his primaries come April 2020.

Lord Hamah, who said Kwesi Poku Bosompem’s campaign was bearing fruits after the support from the opposition, thanked his team who answered to his call for sponsorship.

Hamah in a communique said, “Special thanks to our National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for his contribution, and also to Kempes Ofosuware for promptly reaching out with his contribution immediately I called for the contribution.”

It is not clear how much Lord Hamah has received so far from the NDC on behalf of Kwesi Poku, who is contesting the sitting MP for Tema West, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, for the NPP’s 2020 Parliamentary ticket.

The NDC has vehemently dismissed the claims by Hamah stating that they only saw media reports hence the need to act on the false reports.

The party has also requested for an “unconditional apology” from Lord Hamah.

“The attention of the National Democratic Congress has been drawn to an article on GhanaWeb that asserts that the National Chairman and other NDC members have contributed funds towards the campaign of an aspiring parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party in the Tema West Constituency.”

“By this statement Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo totally denies the said allegation in its entirety and demands an unconditional apology,” Kakra Essamuah said.
