Winneba (C/R), April 9, GNA - A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Mintah, has cautioned party loyalists against acts that could thwart the efforts of the ruling body to hold on to power in the 2012 general election.
Mr Mintah said: 93We came from opposition just about two years four months ago and we are behaving as if we are tired of the power given to us.= " Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Winneba, Mr Mintah said judging from the excellent performance of the government so far, Ghanaians would no= t forgive those whose actions and machinations would force the NDC back to opposition.
He appealed to the founding members of the party to come together to save the party from imminent disgrace. Mr Mintah who was the first Central Regional Chairman of the party said recent developments within the NDC vindicated his call on the leadership to amend the party's Constitution to give founding members recognition and roles to play in its management.
He said since some party executives were tight-lipped on the developments in the NDC: 93The mantle now falls on we the founding members to see to the solution of the problems within our beloved party. We cannot pretend as if we do not know what is happening."
He urged the founding members to rise up to the challenges. Mr Mintah appealed to the supporters of the party to demonstrate their words and deeds 93at this trying moment" of the party that they love the= NDC and are prepared to die for its survival.
He reminded the party that they won the 2008 election with a slim margin and instead of uniting to work harder to improve upon the performance they had chosen to fight among themselves and to divide their front. Mr Mintah said the impasse within the party was taking a national dimension and as a ruling party anything that would disturb its peace disturbs the nation's development agenda.
He appealed to all well-meaning Ghanaians, especially party members to help to resolve the problems without further delay.
