The United States Chapter of the National Democratic Congress has suspended the membership of four members of its New York Branch, for engaging in activities that has brought chaos and confusion to the party. The four members are; Dr. George Lamptey, Mr. Isaac Nortey, Madam Tonnie Gbologah, and Mr. Albert Mensah. All four suspended members have in the past held leadership positions in the NDC New York branch.
The Chairman of NDC USA, Mr. Nii Ashiboi Armah narrated the details of the disciplinary action to www.3gmediaonline.com, a local and international news provider within the Ghanaian community USA.
Mr. Nii Ashiboi Armah stated that the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC USA during a phone conference on October 18th, 2015 supported the decision of the Chairman of NDC USA, to indefinitely suspend the membership of the four named persons from the party and all its affiliated organizations.
Elaborating on the need for disciplinary action against the four, the Chairman stated that the four individuals had persisted in ignoring instructions from the leadership of the party to desist attempts at creating a separate branch of NDC in the New York area. He stated that attempts at creating a branch in the New York City area are not only unnecessary but also against the spirit and letter of the NDC USA by-laws which forbids breakaways and the creation of branches without the permission of NDC USA. The NDC has a branch in the New York City area under the Chairmanship of Mr. Moses Klu Mensah and other elected executives.
The Chairman added that in addition to complaints, the NDC USA has received from the leadership of the NDC New York branch, he had personally witnessed the activities of these persons, and had on several occasions counseled them to desist from these activities. He stated that his calls and that of other leaders from Ghana for the four named persons to stop activities which were creating divisions within the party in the New York area and work with the elected leadership of the New York branch, has not only gone unheeded, but the four have been actively working to divide and create confusion among members of the party in the New York based Ghanaian community.
He also stated that the NDC USA Disciplinary Committee has been tasked to look closely into the matter, he hoped that the disciplinary measures taken against the four will signal to all that the NDC USA is serious about maintaining order within its member branches and will not tolerate any distractions as it prepares to support the party's efforts at winning the 2016 elections.
Members of the Ghanaian community in New York are therefore being informed that they are not to transact any business of the NDC party with these individuals, whoever does party business with them do so at their own risk.
