NDC Resettles Family Of Lynched Activist

The NDC has, in fulfillment of a pledge, brought back the smiles to the face of Ms Selina Dabanka, widow of the late Emmanuel Kofi Grunkpone, member of the NDC youth wing who was lynched in the run up of the December 1996 elections in Kumasi.

Selina and her five-year daughter, Priscilla Grunkpone are now occupying a 2-bed room SSNIT Workers Housing Estate at Asuoyeboa in Kumasi.

The flat duly paid for by the NDC cost US$6,571.

The first installment of over 3000 dollars was paid to SSNIT on April 30, 2001 with the remaining installment being paid on August 28, this year.

The accommodation is part of a resettlement package announced by the ex-president J.J. Rawlings during the funeral of the late Grunkpone on December 19, 1996.

In 1997, the NDC also gave ?3 million in Treasury bill to Selina for the upkeep of Priscilla Grunkpone.

Ex-President Rawlings on behalf of the NDC party had also announced that the party would sponsor late Grunkpone's daughter's education "up to the highest level she could reach."

Selina, 29 has thanked the ex-president and his wife, the NDC and party members for the support given her so far.

The widow thanked former Regional Minister Samuel Nuamah-Donkor who was instrumental in getting the package through.

She was also thankful to then Regional Minister Ohene Agyekum who initially acted on then president Rawlings pledge even though he (Ohene Agyekum) had for a year reportedly frustrated her (Selina) pursuit of the package until Hon. Kojo Yankah made the allocation processes smooth.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kwabena Dabanka, father of the widow, has also expressed his gratitude to the NDC for fulfilling its promise even at time it is out of office.

He expressed concern about Priscilla's future and pleaded her education is catered for as pledged by the ex-president to secure her future.

Little Priscilla is currently schooling at Rosette International School at Asyoyeboah.

She is in stage one.
