NDC, NPP TO CONTEST AFYGYA SEAT

Filing of nominations by candidates to contest the district assembly by elections and the parliamentary seat of the Afigya Sekyere-East Constituency ended at 5pm yesterday.

The candidates would contest the by-election on june10 to fill vacancies 105 electoral areas. Reports reaching Graphic yesterday from the Agona in the Afryie-Sekyere constituency as at yesterday morning indicate that the candidates of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party have filled their nomination with electoral Commission Mr. A.A. Kyeremanteng, kumasi based pharmacist applied to contest, on the ticket of the NPP while Commodore Pius Griffiths Deputy Minister of Communications registered for the NDC.

The other political parties namely the People's Convention Party, Peoples National Convention Party , Great Consolidated Popular Party and the United Ghana Movement had not registered any candidate at the time of filing this report.

Officials of the commission that the Graphic talked to at its headquarters yesterday said they have not received any information regarding the filing of nominations by candidates. The officials however said its personnel at Agona would inform them on the outcome of the exercise this morning.

With regard to the district assembly bye-elections , candidates accompanied by their supporters are said to have thronged district offices of the commission to file their nominations.
