NDC Loses Ningo-Prampram Seat To NPP

The National Tribute political Desk Report

The National Tribute investigative team can report exclusively that National Democratic Congress (NDC) even before the November 7 general elections, has lost the seat to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the paper's investigations in the constituency, the intransigence of the elected Parliamentary Candidate (PC) of the party, Samuel Nartey George has caused a lot of indifference among supporters of the party.

The Paper can also report that that even though the PC annexed a lion's share of votes to beat his contender, Hon Enoch Teye Mensah, the sitting Member of Parliament of the area, he is yet to rope in his contender and supporters in order to retain the seat for the ruling party.

There is massive evidence in the constituency that the woeful failure of the PC to cut down his egos and "tie the knot" with his contender and one Micheal Tetteh Kwettey who is known as 'the darling boy' of both traditional areas, the Ningo and the Prampram, he is deliberately handing over the seat to the New Patriotic Party candidate, Sylvester Tetteh.

Even though, political watchers who spoke to this paper have said clearly that the NDC's chances of retaining the seat with political character is very slim, bickering among the leadership of the party in the constituency because of the poor leadership being offered by the PC is giving the NPP PC the leverage to win the seat, for the first time for the NPP.

The NDC family in the constituency is accusing Samuel George of waging war between the traditional areas where there is already stiff competing interest between the Ningos and the people of Prampram.

The incumbent MP, Enoch Teye Mensah and his followers from Prampram are said to be bitter over the divisive attitude of his former protégé, Sam George Nartey who, incidentally, is from Ningo.

The two major towns in the constituency have been engaged in long running battles, with the Ningos accusing E T Mensah and his Prampram kinsmen of denying them development and stoking the already fragile situation by a person who is aspiring to lead the people of the traditional areas is virtually impossible.

Incidentally, both Sam George and NPP candidate, Sylvester Tetteh, are from Ningo, and there are indications that if the NPP candidate will amass the votes he garnered in the last election, and Prampram NDC members decide to carry through their threats of voting skirts and blouse, the NDC is will to lose the seat, for the first time to the NPP.

Already, some branch executives have issued a stern warning to the National Executives of the party to deal with a petition they addressed to them over Sam George's candidature, failure of which they have threatened to proceed to court.
Just over the weekend, over two hundred supporters of the PC in the constituency declared to vote skirt and blouse in the forthcoming general elections by voting for President John Dramani Mahama and Sylvester Tetteh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the area.

The defectors explained their decision is premised on some antics being exhibited by Sam George in the constituency which they consider is not good for the image of the party in the future as they fear that the President might also lose in the area.

Sam George seems to have angered some members of his own party in Prampram and its environs who are eager to ensure that he loses the November 7 polls.

The defectors include over 50 branch members from Afienya, Dawhenya, Abbey-Kope, Mobole, Community 25 and Mataheko, in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

They were of the view that the manner in which Sam George is misusing the name of the President to deceive people in the area is alarming, and they think this can be a big blow for the party.

Leader of the defectors, Marmah Mantey Francis, who was also a campaign coordinator for Sam George, pointed out that "Sam George is not helping the party's image in the area since he won the primaries.

He noted that Sam George does not respect the elderly, including chiefs. He is disturbed by such a behaviour which he believe, will aggravate when Sam George wins power.

According to him, in as much as they are NDC members, they will love someone with good manners such as Sylvester Tetteh to lead Ningo-Prampram since he has respect for everyone and he has not exhibited any bad character that warrant to be voted against ever since he declared his intention to represent the area in parliament.

He noted that NDC stand the chance to suffer unduly if Sam George is voted to lead the constituency since "he is full of lies and deception."

Stating some promises made by Sam George prior to his nomination and which have become problem for some of his campaign team members, Marmah noted that Sam George gathered farmers in the area and pledge to give them tractors immediately after the primaries in order to boost their farming activities. He said his pledge was based on a promise President Mahama has given to supply him with the tractors but that promise is yet to materialise.

According to him, the NDC candidate further promised a number of public places of conveniences after the primary but he is yet to start a single toilet in the area and the people are worried because most of them defecate along the beaches.

"Whenever Sam George attends function such as naming ceremony, he promises the people and he will not deliver such promises. When the people call him to remind him of his promises, he gives them giving them excuses using the President and he will not honour the promises."
