NDC Is Losing Focus - John Mahama's boy

John Jinapor, Spokesperson for the Vice President, John Mahama, says the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lost focus and is heading for an electoral defeat in 2012. According to him, the current division in the party is weakening the party's front and destroying its chance for victory in the 2012 elections.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme as a panelist, Mr. Jinapor expressed worry about the party seems to be difficulties finding its feet but not about whether Nana Konadu want to contest or not.

“We’ve lost focus that is the worry to me not whether Nana Konadu want to contest or not. In less than two years, in less than half through the mandate of the current administration; if you begin to do this kind of maneuvering and diverting attention, we are heading for a defeat,” he noted.

He added that it is unnecessary for the Former First Lady to even come out to declare her intention.

“I won’t endorse her coming out to declare her intention, it is too premature and not necessary for her to come out and declare any (presidential) intentions,” he stated. Commenting on the action by some footsoldiers who have openly endorsed Mrs. Rawlings as the best candidate to lead the NDC in 2012, an exasperated John Jinapor lamented that instead of the party focusing on projecting the NDC government’s feat achieved in the current Corruption Index report, it is rather bent on attacking each other.

“This is the first time Ghana has achieved this level of corruption reduction since the introduction of the Corruption Index and instead of us to capitalize on it and present the NDC government as less corrupt compared to our predecessors, we are rather engaging in backbiting, attacking each other and determining who becomes presidential candidate. If Nana Konadu contests and wins, it is the NDC and if President Mills contests and wins, it is still NDC. Let nobody make a mistake to think that you can go to the electorates and run Mills administration down and expect to win, we will be judged based on the achievements of the Mills administration,” he proffered.
