NDC Chairman calls for civility on campaign platforms

Agona (Ash), May 4, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Adu-Gyamfi, Afigya-Sekyere East Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asked leaders of political parties to ensure sanity on campaign platforms to stave off nasty incidents in the run-up to this year's general election.

He noted that the country had come very far and could not afford to allow politics of insults, provocation and divisiveness to roll back the progress made and undermine the present democratic dispensation.

Mr Adu-Gyamfi was speaking at a ceremony to welcome 105 defectors from the opposition who have joined the Veranda Boys and Girls Club at Agona. He cautioned against the use of insulting language that could incite ethnic hatred and endanger the unity and cohesion of the nation.

He asked supporters of the party not to be intimidated by the opposition but openly display, advertise and wear NDC colours to make the presence of the party felt in the area.

Mr Adu-Gyamfi noted that people were now joining the NDC in droves in recognition of its good works and policies that have won the admiration of the international community.

Mr Rexford Anokye, Afigya-Sekyere District Chief Executive, said their doors were open to all and reiterated the government's commitment to promote the quality of life of the people. He advised the defectors to show loyalty and help win over their friends in the opposition to the NDC.

Mr O.B. Amankwaah, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Club, said with determination, unity of purpose and hard work, there was no way the Progressive Alliance could not make a strong showing in Ashanti, the hotbed of opposition in the December elections.

The spokesman for the defectors, Mr Kofi George, gave the assurance of their determination to assist the NDC to wrest the constituency parliamentary seat from the NPP in this year's elections.
