Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, has extended heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for the party’s landmark victory in the 2024 general elections, marking one year since President John Dramani Mahama resumed office.
In a public statement issued on Saturday, Nana Kwasi hailed the people as the true architects of the NDC's success, crediting their unwavering support and trust for the peaceful transition of power and the party’s return to governance.
“Without the people, the NDC would still be in opposition,” Nana Kwasi declared, underscoring that the victory was not merely a political triumph but a collective mandate for development and accountability.
The regional chairman reflected on the significant strides made under President Mahama’s renewed administration, particularly in infrastructure, economic stabilization, and grassroots development across the Ashanti Region.
He highlighted the ongoing efforts to complete the second phase of the Kejetia Market redevelopment project—a long-awaited initiative expected to transform West Africa’s largest informal trading hub. He also commended plans for the revitalization of the Krofrom Market, calling it a boost to local commerce and job creation.
“To see such large-scale interventions taking root in the heart of Kumasi, a region often considered an NPP stronghold, speaks volumes about President Mahama’s inclusive vision for national development,” Nana Kwasi remarked.
He further revealed that the President Mahama administration is collaborating with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to construct 24-hour economy markets across various districts in the region.
“These markets will not only extend trading hours but also improve sanitation, security, and business efficiency for our hardworking traders,” he explained, adding that the projects are part of the government’s broader strategy to decentralize economic activity and empower local entrepreneurs.
Nana Kwasi lauded the dedication of MMDCEs, noting their “tireless efforts and hands-on leadership” in executing the President’s development blueprint on the ground.
In a gesture of unity and respect, the NDC regional chairman expressed profound appreciation to key traditional and religious authorities for fostering peace and civic engagement during the electoral period.
He specifically acknowledged the role of His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, alongside other chiefs and the clergy, for their non-partisan leadership and commitment to democratic stability.
“As we rebuild and develop, we do so hand-in-hand with our traditional rulers and spiritual leaders. Their wisdom and moral guidance remain indispensable,” Nana Kwasi said.
As the nation approaches the Christmas and New Year festivities, the chairman issued a festive appeal to traders and business owners across the region.
He urged them to consider lowering the prices of essential goods to reflect recent macroeconomic improvements, particularly the government’s achievement in strengthening the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar.
“The President and his Finance Minister have done well by stabilizing and appreciating the cedi. It is now imperative that traders pass these gains on to the common citizen,” Nana Kwasi emphasized. “Let this festive season be one of relief and joy for every Ghanaian family.”
He added that with affordable prices, Ghanaians would fully benefit from the government’s hard-earned economic progress.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to delivering inclusive growth and improving the living standards of all Ghanaians, especially those in historically underserved communities.
“Our administration is just one year into a bold five-year agenda,” he said. “With the trust of the people, the guidance of our leaders, and the resilience of our communities, we are confident of a brighter, more prosperous Ghana.”
The NDC’s milestone anniversary celebrations in the Ashanti Region come amid growing optimism about the party’s expanding footprint in one of the country’s most politically significant regions.
Party members nationwide are expected to join in commemorating the anniversary with public engagements, town hall meetings, aind community development initiatives
