NCCE wants names of minors removed from register

Wa, Sept. 15, GNA - The Upper West Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called for the removal of the names of minors in the voters register. Mr Kofi Adomah, Regional Director of the Commission said it had come to the notice of NCCE that some political party agents had condoned to have minors registered in the recent voters registration exercise. He appealed to Ghanaians who have done double registration to voluntary surrender their voter's registration Identity Cards for their names to be expunged from the register.

Mr Adomah made the appeal during an interaction with the media to outlines programmes that the NCCE had put in place to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections in the Region.

He said some section of Ghanaians have raised concerns about the credibility of the voters register and urged all to ensure that nothing was done to aggravate the situation.

He said Ghanaians needed a credible voters register for the December 7 polls.

On the media, Mr Adomah said some media houses have been acting as the mouth piece of certain political parties. He said such media houses continued to highlight negative things about personalities of other parties.

"This type of journalism produces nothing than divisions which the nation does not need," Mr Adomah said.

He appealed to the section of the media engaged in that type of enterprise to change their attitude and join the clergy, the Imams, traditional rulers and all meaning Ghanaians to spread the message of peace.

This will help Ghana to maintain her image as a beacon of peace in Sub-Saharan Africa, to attract investments.
