NCCE celebrates Annual Constitution Week

Techiman (B/A), May 5, GNA - Mr Simon Ogah, Techiman Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on the government to adequately resource the Commission to carry out its educational duties satisfactorily. He said the Commission had made the work of municipal and district assemblies easy in setting standards and eligibility among other things.

Mr Ogah was speaking at the launch of the Ninth Annual Constitution Week celebration at Techiman under the theme; "Beyond election, citizens' participation and government accountability". He explained that the celebration of the constitution week was strategic to the Commission and underscored the need for political heads to be accountable of their stewardship whilst in government to sustain the people's trust in them.

Mr Ogah appealed to assembly members not to mortgage accountability rights by accepting monies from nominees before confirming them as district or municipal chief executives as it would be a bad precedent that would favour only the affluent. 05 May 09
