NASPA pledges support for interim ED of NSS

The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), has pledged to support the newly appointed interim Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) in his bid to make service personnel see national service as a call to duty, rather than a curse.

A statement issued by NASPA and initialed by its President, Mr Vincent Ekow Assafuah, NASPA recalled that NSS has suffered a severe mauling for weeks, on account of a payroll scandal which was a bother to all, including NASPA, the major stakeholder of the Scheme.

The statement said, according to preliminary investigations by the Bureau of National Investigations, some Managers of the Scheme ‘ballooned’ the number of service persons by close to 23,000 in July which allegedly defrauded 7.9 million Ghana cedis of Ghanaian tax payer’s money.

It said, as patriotic Ghanaian youth with the development of our country as a priority, members of NASPA frowned on such acts, and therefore advised Dr Michael Whyte Kpessa, to be circumspect, and beware of potential vampires who may be within the Scheme.

The statement said NASPA was hopeful in its conviction that Dr. Kpessa with his track record, and a front liner of youth activities, would once again redeem the enviable image of the NSS.
