NAM 1 sponsored your campaign yet you accuse him falsely - Maurice Ampaw slams NPP

Private legal practitioner, lawyer Maurice Ampaw, has taken the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to the cleaners over the ill treatment they gave to embattled Menzgold CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM 1.

The lawyer who is also a customer of Menzgold, told Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that NAM 1 sponsored the campaign of the NPP especially in Kasoa and bought motorcycles for the party.

Commenting on the acquittal and discharge of NAM 1 in Dubai over the alleged gold fraud saga, the lawyer said “I am disappointed in the NPP. I am disappointed because of how they treated NAM 1. NAM 1 sponsored their campaign and bought for the party motorcycles. He has been supporting the government and so I was shocked at the way he was treated when the Menzgold saga started.”

Lawyer Ampaw said all the saboteurs who connived with government to persecute the CEO falsely, have all been humiliated following his court victory.

He then took his gun on the aggrieved customers who he noted have been insensitive to the plight of Menzgold.

He revealed on the show that Menzgold had planned to pay customers between 15-20 per cent of their deposits but the customers rejected the offer and demanded for all outstanding deposits.

According to him, he was attacked and assaulted for calling for calm when the Menzgold saga started.

“When the issue started, I embarked on a nationwide tour to appeal to customers to exercise restraint but I was accused of bribery. Due to that I stopped what I was doing. NAM 1 was falsely accused, insulted and called a fraudster but a Dubai court has acquitted and discharged him. No court in Ghana tried him or found him guilty of fraud and yet Ghanaians attacked this innocent man.”

He was also worried at the failure of government to prosecute persons behind the collapse of some local banks in Ghana but has found it prudent to denigrate NAM 1.

NAM 1 was arrested in Dubai sometime in December 2018 following a report to security authorities by a Dubai based company that he could be connected to an alleged botched gold business with a Ghanaian company, one of whose officials was known to him.

He is said to have landed in Dubai hoping to retrieve some $39 million owed Menzgold by the Dubai-based company, Horizon Royal Diamonds DMCC, for the supply of gold.
