NAGRAT honours Professor Ameyaw Akumfi

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), in the Brong-Ahafo Region, has honoured former Minister of Education, Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi for his immense contribution towards quality education and the cause of teachers in the country.

Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, currently the Member of Parliament for Techiman North, received a certificate and other souvenirs at a dinner and awards night organized by NAGRAT in sunyani.

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of NAGRAT, Jacob Anaba, said the award given to Professor Akumfi was in recognition of his support for graduate teachers during the Kufour administration.

Mr. Anaba recalled that Professor Akumfi played an important role in the formation of the graduate teachers’ union from the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT). “At a time Professor Ameyaw Akumfi was a minister and was expected to have defended government, he came to our support in moving away from GNAT and we think that was the best he did for us “, Anaba said.

Processor Akumfi on his part thanked NAGRAT for the honor done him and pledged to further support the union any time the need arises.

He pointed out that the four year SSS system the NPP introduced was the best for the country and expressed regret that the NDC government has reverted to the old three year system.
