Mr Henry Nii Lante Plange, the Accra Metropolitan Director of NADMO, has asked management of Kenem Industries to comply with recommendations of the Hydrological Services Department to avoid flooding within the premises of Ashfoam Company.

The recommendation was in a report on the perennial flooding at Dadeban and Otublohum roads at the North Industrial Area, in the Greater Accra Region.

The report showed that the partial blockage of part of the covered drain within the premises of Kenem Company, a plastic manufacturing company, was severe and negatively impacted on their operations.

Mr Plange gave the directive when together with his team and police personnel toured flood-prone areas at the Industrial Area.

He said the partial blockage of part of the covered drain within the premises of Kenem Company had exacerbated the flooding within Ashfoam Company with flood water levels reading as high as 1.5 m above ground level.

The report recommended that the run off from Ashfoam Company and Kenem Company should be collected, conveyed and discharged through separate drains to the culvert on the Otublohum road.

The report also recommended that the blockage in the drain, which was meant to reduce flow from the Ashfoam Company should be cleared to facilitate free flow of run off.

Mr Plange said the downpour on April 14, 2019 caused flooding within the premises of Ashfoam, with flood water rising to the level of 1.5 meters, adding that, “if the situation continues, the wall might collapse and cause serious havoc.”

He said their mandate was not only to respond to disasters but also be proactive in preventive measures in an unlikely issue of human disaster.

Nana Yaw Ampem-Darko Antwi, the Marketing and Communications Manager of Ashfoam Company, said the round pipe drainage between Ashfoam Company and Kenem Company was 0.9 meters but management of Kenem Company had to reduce it to 0.3 meters.

He explained that the situation had caused more harm to the company than good, causing severe flooding within their premises and called on the Authorities to enforce the law to avert any unforeseen situation.

Mr Prasanth Nair, the General Manager, Kenem Company said their outfit had to reduce the pipe drainage because of the water flooding on their premises, adding that, they were ready to cooperate with the authorities to address the issue.
