NADMO supports Nyakrom displaced people

Agona Nyakrom, Nov.18, GNA - The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has presented relief items worth 50 million cedis to the Moslem community at Agona Nyakrom displaced in last Saturday's violent clashes.

The items included 500 mattresses, 200 plastic buckets and cups, 200 bags of rice and 10 bales of used clothing. Mr. William Pip Doe, Member of the Technical and Reconstruction Committee and Mr. Osei Kwadzo, Central Regional Co-ordinator both of NADMO, presented the items to the Agona District Chief Executive, Mr. Adu Yeboah.

Mr. Doe said NADMO's assistance was in response to the call by the Central Regional Administration when Mr. Jehu Appiah, Deputy Regional Minister inspected damage caused by the youth of the town during the clashes. He said that the items cannot solve all of their problems but would go a long way to meet some of their needs.

Mr. Doe assured the Moslem community that the government would continue to support them. Mr Adu Yeboah called on them to exercise restraint to ensure peace and stability in the town.

He said the district assembly has also presented items worth 5 million cedis to the community adding that the government would investigate the incident and punish those found guilty.

Mr Khamis Sala, Imam in charge of Nyakrom Zongo, thanked the government for the gesture. Meanwhile 800 males were arrested in a joint Military and Police operation at dawn on Wednesday in connection with the clashes.

Among them were Chiefs, the Omanhene's Abusuapanin, teachers and staff of Bank of Ghana and Nyarkrom Rural Bank. Following the arrest, people mainly females and children have fled to nearby towns and villages such as Abodom, Nkum, Meansahkrom and Agona Swedru.

A police source told GNA that the suspects would be screened and those found to be involved made to face the full rigours of the law
