NADMO Platform calls for more resources for disaster management

Koforidua, Aug 2, GNA - The Conference of Regional Platform for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has suggested that a percentage of the District Assembly Common Fund should be given to the organization to enable it establish effective and well equipped local structures for disaster prevention.

According to the conference, NADMO was inadequately resourced to carry out its mandate of disaster management especially in the area of prevention and effective dealing with victims in the event of disaster.

Nana Kodua Kesse, the Oyokohene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, told the GNA that NADMO lacked adequate logistics to fulfill its mandate.

Nana Kodua Kesse, who is also the Nifahene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, said NADMO was critical in disaster prevention and management of victims and needed sufficient resources to function effectively.

He said natural disasters, unlike man made ones, could not be prevented and therefore it was important that the NADMO is ever ready to respond to disasters.

Nana Kodua Kesse said looking at the recent floods where thousands of people in Eastern and Volta regions were displaced, NADMO could have performed better if it was adequately resourced.
