Nkoranza (B/A) Oct. 16, GNA - Nkoranza district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) have embarked on a massive spraying exercise to combat the invasion of army worms on maize farms in the district. Mr. Benson Acheampong, District NADMO Coordinator told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza about 1,600 hectares of land in the area had so far been sprayed.

He expressed appreciation to the District Assembly for providing 300 litres of Wreko chemical for the exercise, whilst MOFA also provided 160 litres of the pesticide.

Mr. Acheampong commended the District Director of Agricultural Services, Dr. Kofi Afakye and the agricultural extension officers for their efforts in the exercise. Mr. Isaac Kuting, a maize farmer, said the exercise had saved his three-hectare farm.

Meanwhile some maize farmers in the affected communities have appealed to NGOs, philanthropists and other public-spirited individuals to assist in checking against the spread of the pest. 16 Oct. 06
