Mzbel was not raped

…police say it`s sexual harassment

The Ghana Police Service have dismissed reports making rounds that a Ghanaian artiste, Nana Ekua Amoah, a.k.a Mzbel was raped by armed robbers who attacked her residence in New Gbawe in Accra on Tuesday.

“In early hours of yesterday (Tuesday), she reported to the police that she has been attacked by robbers in her room with two other girls and were harassed sexually”, Superintendent Joseph Kesseh, Commanding Officer of Odorkor District Police Headquarters told ADM.

Supt. Kesseh said based on her report, officers from the district with support from those on patrol were deployed to the scene, but before the team got there, the robbers had bolted with whatever they laid hands on.

They made away with her laptop, video camera and still cameras, mobile phones, DVD players, jewels and other valuable items including amount running into millions of cedis.

According to Supt. Kesseh, Mzbel told the police that she had a tip off from the same robbers who attacked them that, “they were sent to her by her own half-brother”.

However, the alleged mastermind, Ato Amoah, - the half-brother, from one father but different mothers – who was picked up by the police yesterday, has denied any involvement in the crime.

The District Commander said investigations are still underway to apprehend the suspects. “We have dispatched detectives who are currently underground assisting to arrest the criminals,” he said.

Meanwhile the public have condemned the act of robbery, which could happen to anyone and have also appealed to the public to disassociate the robbery from her dress code on stage as a musician.

According to the Daily Graphic report, the traumatized musician said she was fast asleep when she felt a slap on her back and when she woke up, the robbers asked her to surrender all the dollars on her.

Mzbel, who had just returned from a trip to Liberia to stage a UN show, said she told them she had nothing on her, but the robbers would not heed to that excuse so they manhandled her. They proceeded to search the rooms and succeeded in having a field day.
