My son's return has nothing to do with Ayew brothers - Kwadwo Asamoah's dad

Agya Asamoah, father of Kwadwo Asamoah has denied reports that the absence of the Ayew brothers facilitated his son’s return to Ghana national team after a four-year exile.

Kwesi Appiah has included the energetic midfielder in his 18 man squad for the AFCON qualifier against Kenya next month.

The 29-year-old has been out national duties after the country’s shambolic display at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Ayew brothers who have not played for the country since the World Cup qualifier 0:0 against Congo in Kumasi last year has been again axed from the squad with some suggesting it is the catalyst for the return of the former Juventus star.

“I’ve heard stories about the No 10 jersey as one of the reasons my son didn’t want to return to play for Ghana,” he told Sikka FM.

“Let me put it on record that jerseys and jersey numbers don’t determine a player’s performance,” said Agya Asamoah.

“The presence/absence of the Ayews has nothing to do with Kwadwo’s presence/absence in the Ghana team. He’s had problems with injuries which affected his form & justified his exclusion,” he added.
