My partner is HIV negative, but he loves me – AIDS patient reveals

An HIV positive woman (prefers to be called Irene) with five children has revealed that she is dating a GIMPA graduate who is HIV negative.

“I get encouragement from my new boyfriend; he gets me back on track whenever I am downhearted. We’ve been having protected sex for quite some time now. We enjoy doing it and honestly, we love ourselves,” Irene who contracted the disease about 10 years ago, said.

The mother of five made the revelation on ‘Obi Adi Mawu’ on Atinka FM Wednesday. The show is hosted by Pastor Martin Sermodje.

The woman, who had three children from her first marriage, said she lost her first husband through an accident which really caused her so much pain.

“I went through a lot in order to survive… at a point, I didn’t have enough money to pay for my rent so I was ejected by the landlord. Paying for my children’s school fees was also a major challenge,” she added.

In the midst of hardships, she married another man, who, unfortunately, infected her with HIV.

Irene, who was selling “pure water” to make ends meet said, she got pregnant before she realized she had contracted the virus. Her first child with the second husband was infected with the virus as a result.

She, however, expressed gratitude to God for her second born who didn’t contract the virus because she religiously adhered medical advice.

Speaking on the hottest mid-morning show in the capital, Madam Irene said her second husband blamed her “family witches” for the infection and thus refused to go for checkup.

She added that she nearly hanged herself due to the husband family’s inhumane attitude towards her.

Madam Irene said her pressing need is how to get proper care for her HIV child, adding her father (second husband) has neglected them.

“I need help else my 11-year-old daughter will die because she has not taken antiretroviral drugs for the past two years,” she lamented.
